Handcrafted washi (Japanese paper) lampshade featuring diagonal lines and water drop design, treated with momigami technique.

Momigami (揉み紙) is a traditional Japanese technique that transforms paper into a strong, flexible, fabric-like material through repeated folding, kneading, and treating with konnyaku starch, resulting in a durable, soft, and pliable material with a rich patina. 

Washi creates a soft, diffused light perfect for bedrooms, living areas, or any space where you want to add warmth and a sense of serenity.

This versatile shade can be paired with most E26 or E17 lamp bases or pendant lights to accentuate a traditional Japanese style room, or blend seamlessly into Japandi, Zen, Scandinavian, minimalism interior, soft contemporary, or other nature-inspired styles.

Wabi-sabi is the Japanese appreciation of beauty in imperfection and impermanence.  It values natural textures, subtle irregularities, and the passage of time.  Handmade washi embodies this aesthetic through its visible fibers, gentle variations, and organic details shaped by the maker’s hands and the seasons.

This piece, from the paper to the final product, was handmade by washi artist Yuki Yoshimura in Fukuoka, Japan.
